Pudgy Penguins and CryptoUndeads stole much of the news this week on Coffee with Captain. The Pudgy Penguins went absolutely parabolic as the team just keeps stacking wins. What is the catalyst that sparked it all? The CryptoUndeads had significant hype, but there were some missteps along the way. Two sets of powerhouse guests joined us later in the week. Yuga Labs joined us to talk BAYC specifically and we wrapped up the week with one of the top IPs in Claynosaurz.
In case you missed any of the shows, below is a small recap of each day with links to the podcast on Apple and Spotify. Links to other streaming platforms can be found on our buzzsprout page. Check out the timestamp if you want to catch the specific interviews.
Monday
Culture > Strategy: Building Loyalty
Pudgys continue to stack wins and the sentiment of their community reflects that. This creates a larger conversation around loyalty, culture and community. What factors play a role in the success of an NFT brand?
PFP market share clearly plays a role, but what makes someone willing to change? Strategy is important, but a brand’s culture sets it all in motion. Pudgy Penguins frame of reference are gifs or cute toys that aren’t always even associated with NFTs. Steve Jobs said “you’ve got to start with the customer experience and work backwards for the technology.”
As far as loyalty, there is a section of web3 that cares, but there’s a lot of consumers who are only focused on the monetary aspect. Stacking wins, big or small, is more beneficial in the long term and contributes to building brand loyalty. Each cycle we mature as in industry is an opportunity to bring in new people who value loyalty.

Tuesday
Solana Primed by CryptoUndeads
The show begins with Cap and Steve seeking guidance in their BattlePlan loadouts and trying to understand why they’re not very good. The rest of the show is centered around the Solana ecosystem being primed for the launch of CryptoUndeads. Is this overhyped or is there a chance for success? There was a lot of mystery behind the project and seemed to have the perfect mix of FUD/hype from the Coffee Crew. The main aim is merging communities together from both Solana and Ethereum. Will it be a success?

Wednesday
Discord Only
The CryptoUndeads mint mishaps ruled the conversation this morning. There were issues with the presale and people not getting their allocation due to tech issues with CU’s vendor. Trading seemed to be enabled prematurely, which cost some people potential profits. The War Room spoke on what was done after mint and if there was anything to make it right in the future?
Conversation about Nifty Island wrapped up the day. Bold statements about Nifty Island lapping Yuga were made, but would the game live up to the hype? The playtesting would commence later in the day
Due to X spaces not working, the conversation was done via the dGEN Network discord. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to record the audio because X failing was unexpected. The discord is closed, but there are a few open channels. Come be a part of some daily, high level conversations by picking up a dGEN Pass or hang out in the limited channels for free.
Thursday
Bored Apes vs Pudgy Penguins + The BAYC Team Interview
The Coffee Crew is joined by members of Yuga Labs to specifically talk about BAYC. Jeff and Illa to discuss community concerns surrounding BAYC. It’s clear that Yuga is building a legacy and has a long term vision. Yuga understands the importance of community, which is why they’re trying to reestablish the feelings of the clubhouse in the early days. The team even hints at a physical clubhouse in the future plans. Listen in as Jeff and Illa also talk about the BAYC council, more IRL events, the future of Otherside and more.
A new rivalry has arisen within the NFT space. Pudgy Penguins are well on their way to flipping the iconic BAYC. Is this really possible or euphoria? This is an unprecedented run up as the Pudgys were all but left for dead as a collection. Cap’s thoughts on the “flappening” may surprise you.

Friday
Claynosaurz: A Leader in Web3 Animation
Spicy Cap comes out early in the show and CryptoUndeads is the main target. Dollar hops in to discuss some of the issues surrounding the CU mint.
Later, Andrew and Nick join the Coffee Crew to discuss Claynosaurz, one of the top IP brands within web3. Claynosaurz have drawn a lot of comparisons to Doodles and Pudgy Penguins because of their art. These were designed to be toys from Day 1 and the team built the 3D characters to fit that design. We learned about the team’s impressive animation background (Game of Thrones, Stranger Things and much more), what inspired the characters, how they ended up Solana and future developments. If you’re looking for their specific interview, check out.
