Week 18 of Coffee with Captain has some exciting news as our fearless Captain, Chris, joins Cruise Director Steve full-time in web3. Make sure to show him some love if you already haven’t. The week started with some suspect activity by Coolman’s Universe. We also talked a lot about Yuga, BAYC and Moonbirds as there was a ton of news dropped. I was personally excited by the Azuke anime release, Enter The Garden. And we can’t forget about our good friends from Forbes Web3 joining us once again. Another week of great content.

Monday
Coolman’s Universe Controversial $COOL Launch
The biggest story of the weekend is Coolman’s Universe’s release of $COOL. Coolman’s Universe is an NFT project dropped in December of 2021 by a YouTuber, Danny Casale. The project decided to drop a memecoin for their community and it did not go well. The team did a stealth launch and the project developers sniped 80% of the token supply. Afterwards, the project posts about the token being live and 2M worth of tokens were dumped on buyers. There are still many questions around what actually happened and who will be held responsible..
Bitcoin Runes seemed to have fizzled out in the short-term after being overhyped by Bitcoin lovers. Is there hope for them in the long-term? I believe so. The infrastructure on Bitcoin is still really poor, which means less people are even attempting to buy Runes right now. We’ll see as it improves. In the Blast realm, OSF launched an edition with a refundable contract. Funds are locked for a month and anyone has an opportunity to be refunded in that window. This method will be interesting if it catches on long-term.

Moonbirds New IP Rights + Forbes Web3 Returns
Yuga Labs announced that the Moonbirds arm of the company is launching Moonbirds Universe. Moonbirds will receive new art, which will give IP rights to holders. This is a step in the right direction after Moonbirds IP became CC0 awhile back. It will be important for Yuga to keep the ball rolling on the Moonbirds side of things
Mani and Katz return to tell the Coffee Crew more about Forbes Web3 and the release of their Legacy Pass. Forbes has been covering blockchain technology and web3 for nearly a decade and it’s their turn to be deeper in at the community level. The Legacy Pass is curated around entrepreneurs, builders and artists. Each holder will have their name printed in the physical Forbes magazine, which has never been done before. There will also be curated artists’ drops and opportunities to be “backed by Forbes.”
Listen back to the episode to learn what it means to be backed by Forbes and some of the additional benefits that Legacy Pass holders receive. IRL events will be one of their biggest pushes. Be sure to check out their socials to learn how to get waitlisted.

Wednesday
The Ups & Downs of Entrepreneurship
Wednesday brought a big red day in the markets, so the Coffee Crew naturally pivots into discussion about entrepreneurship. We discuss the realities of what it means to be an entrepreneur. There is a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into building your own business. Many people see the end product, but not the journey. The lows of being an entrepreneur are lower than a 9-5 job, but the ceiling is a lot higher. And the honest truth is entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone. Some people drown, while others thrive.
We do get a chance to touch on Blast rewards. The Blur farmers have made their way to the protocol and it’s only a month until rewards, so liquidity will likely be flowing within that ecosystem. Bitcoin Runes continues to be a “wait and see” approach as liquidity seems to be dry. Runes will likely need a catalyst to truly go on a run.

Thursday
Azuki Releases 1st Anime Episode
Azuki dropped their first anime episode called Enter The Garden. I watched it on YouTube, but there are many other platforms to stream it on. There were some mixed reviews, but I personally loved it. I am a fan of the older anime style, so it spoke to me. Will this catch the eyes of mainstream anime watchers though?
Dem, Head of Community at Azuki, drops by to educate the Coffee Crew on what went into the curation of this episode. Listening to his explanation was enough to flip Cap and Steve bullish on their future plans. There will be two more episodes in the future. It’s important to note the episode is subbed and the series is an anthology.

Friday
Yuga’s Path for BAYC & Moonbirds
Yuga held a town hall in the Otherside and the sentiment was overwhelmingly positive. There were quite a few exciting announcements dropped for holders. It seems there is another airdrop of some sort coming for BAYC holders, Kodas will be getting a 3D model, ApeChain testnet is live and a new event called Project Dragon. I feel like there were a couple more news pieces that sparked up a good mood for holders.
On the flipside, Moonbirds holders potentially felt left out. This will be a tough road ahead for Yuga. How will they focus on their flagship collection, BAYC, but also keep Moonbirds holders feeling part of the community? It’s possible and will likely need a comprehensive strategy. Moonbirds IP will be needed down the road, as they have more “mass appeal” than BAYC. Time will tell, but again I think it’s another step in the right direction.

Wrap Up
Anything surrounding Moonbirds always evokes emotion and this week was no different. I’ll be interested to see if holders will ever feel made whole. Yuga is starting to stack wins and that is going to be massive for their future growth. People will always want Yuga to fail and that’s why they must succeed. I’ve moved one step closer to entering the Azuki ecosystem, but I am a lover of anime at heart. If you missed week 17, make sure to check it out here.
