Week 22 of Coffee with Captain was an eventful one. We started off the week hot with a variety of celebrity tokens, some scams and some not? We also had Consensus 2024 and we heard nothing but good reviews. Are NFT-specific conferences about to become a thing of the past? Pacmoon gets an upgrade to version 2. The SocialFi experiment continues and they seem primed to make waves. We also have a new Coffee with Captain sponsorship announced alongside the live Coffee with Captain!

Consensus 2024 Preview + Celebrity Scam Tokens
The weekend was full of celebrity scam tokens, and apparently real ones too. Caitlyn Jenner dropped $JENNER on Sunday and no one was sure if this was a hack, social engineering or something else. It did come out that a few individuals attached to the token’s drop are considered bad actors. One individual, Sahil, was connected to a string of celebrity scam tokens. I haven’t purchased any $JENNER tokens, but it seems like Caitlyn is completely in control now? It will be interesting to see if the SEC gets involved.
Consensus 2024 happened this week and the Coffee Crew is excited. We had Katz and Jen Fasino come through and talk about the events going down in Austin, Texas. I posted about the show and Jen’s master list earlier in the week, so hopefully you got all the information you needed. We also talk about how crypto and the American government seem to be getting more intertwined. What does this mean for the future of crypto? Honestly, I’m not sure. I think it will have a net positive though.

100k NFT Bets + Blaze Team Interview
An individual made a post saying he thought there would be no new NFT collection hitting a $100k floor in the future. This generated a lot of buzz on the timeline and on the show. He states the increasing number of chains will result in liquidity spread wider and assets will become cheaper in the future. Luca is willing to make a bet that at least one does. I think the original poster makes some great points, but I still lean to Luca’s side.
We had a great discussion over gaming on-chain. We’ve all been waiting to see it explode because of what the blockchain unlocks for gaming assets. However, mobile gaming will most likely be the unlock for a mass influx of blockchain-based gaming. We already know the ability to own and sell assets is something many gamers want, but they don’t want it attached to the language of NFTs. Most crypto-based gamers are fixated on the financial aspect and are impatient. This makes it hard to test how fun these blockchain games are.
The Blaze team joined the show to discuss their user platform. They are combining the refundable NFT concept with earning native yield. Blaze believes refundable NFTs will be a normal part of collections in the future and I tend to agree. Most users are willing to take a risk if there’s a refundable component, even if there’s a specific lockup period before they can redeem it. Blaze will still offer the traditional minting experience for those interested.
American Ape (Ramon Govea) also shared about an upcoming project he’s releasing, Salvage Alchemist. This story focused collection is the second installation after Waifu Warriors. Animation and comic books are already in the works for the future.

Iggy Azalea Drops a Memecoin
Iggy Azalea is the latest celebrity to drop a token in this recent memecoin cycle. There does seem to be something a little bit different about her though. She spoke on Modern Market about her understanding of the space and also how deeply her brother is involved. The Coffee Crew had a lot of back and forth on $MOTHER. Cap and Steve were on opposite sides of the aisle and brought good points. What if this is real? This could be a way to onboard a different type of user into the crypto ecosystem. What did we learn from the last cycle and celebrity projects? Most of them were cash grabs and didn’t stay when the going got tough. I will say that Iggy seems more genuine than Caitlyn Jenner, but I’m not sure if I’ll dabble just yet.

Pacmoon v2 + Memeland’s $MEME Decisions
Pacmoon version 2 is here. Pacmoon has seemingly gone from a memecoin to building a business. They are continuing to experiment with the SocialFi aspect of it all. Currently, the content being amplified is much better than the “like, retweet, comment” model that is so popular. One of their biggest issues will be integrating anti-botting and anti-farming measures. Right now, Pacmoon is using validators to help verify the content on X as “good content.” The only barrier to becoming a validator that I’m aware of is holding at least 10k Pacmoon.
We also talked about Memeland’s claim for $MON. One individual deep in the Memeland streets says that Stakeland is a whale’s game and it’s not worth it to burn you $STEAK. The advice I’ve seen from a few holders is that you’re better off buying a Captain’s NFT and accruing $MEME. The only fear with holding is that $MEME trends to 0 over time, but I tend to listen to the advice of those deep in Memeland.

Are NFT Conferences A Thing of the Past?
Are NFT conferences about to be a thing of the past? The theory is that the phrase “NFT” will go away, just like “mp3” went away when describing music. I think this will be an important norm for the future of crypto. We’re also seeing more community agnostic events, which makes it easier for individuals to come together instead of being segmented in an already niche corner of the world. This led to a larger conversation over rebranding and what to consider when rebranding. Be sure to check that section of the show out if you’re considering a rebrand.
We’re proud to announce that we’ve established a partnership with pepecoin! On the show we get a little deep dive into the pepecoin ecosystem. This is a community partnership and not an official team partnership, but there are a lot of synergies between the pepecoin and Coffee with Captain communities. We also want to show love to the Coffee with Captain live show sponsors. Thank you to Making Coffee, Bored Bagels and Quirks ‘N Co Donuts for hooking the community up with some treats.

Wrap Up
That’s all for week 22 of Coffee with Captain. Consensus 2024 seemed like a blast (I’m a little upset I couldn’t make it). Caitlyn Jenner and Iggy Azalea launching memecoins was not on my bingo card, but this is crypto and nothing should surprise me anymore. Shoutout to pepecoin for the new Coffee with Captain sponsorship. We also want to say another thanks to Making Coffee, Bored Bagels and Quirk ‘N Co Donuts for sponsoring the live Coffee with Captain on Friday! If you missed week 21, make sure to check it out here.
