It’s week 26 of Coffee with Captain, which officially means we’re halfway through the year. The big news this week was the $BLAST airdrop. Did the token generation event (TGE) meet expectations? We also had quite a few special guests to come talk Doodles, a new sports club, all things ApeChain and TruStub’s ticket stub experience. You won’t want to miss this recap!
In case you missed any of the shows, below is a small recap of each day with links to the podcast on Apple and Spotify. Links to other streaming platforms can be found on our buzzsprout page. Check out the timestamp if you want to catch the specific interviews.

The Death of Moonbirds and Most NFT PFPs
Mt Geaux is releasing $9 billion in Bitcoin repayments and the market responded as you would expect. The show quickly pivoted into a Michael Jordan vs Lebron James debate, which never gets anywhere, but is always a fun time between friends. Michael Jordan is obviously the GOAT, but even if you disagree please keep reading.
Later in the show one of the Coffee Crew finally capitulated on Moonbirds. It seems like Yuga acquiring the project couldn’t help fix what’s wrong with the core. There are memecoin X accounts with more activity than the Moonbirds account… that’s not good. This sparks a larger discussion about failing projects.
Floor price, community and understanding the core holder base all play a role in the success of a project. Especially when the industry is so financially motivated. Projects need to manage community expectations well and deliver on their promises. Even in the current landscape of NFTs, there are plenty of people who still love them.

Market Turmoil, More Layer 2 Blockchains & Doodles’ Move to Base
The market chop is normal and should be expected if you’ve been around in crypto long enough. Even so, it’s hard not to be phased by the up and down of your portfolio. The current market environment still has celebrity memecoins hanging around, but they’re not as much of a focus as the past few weeks.
The number of incoming layer 2 blockchains is on the rise, but there’s no way all of them survive. Don’t spread yourself too thin trying to explore every layer 2. Pick and choose some that you’re genuinely interested in. Blockchains need transactions, quality content being produced about the blockchain and an easy onboarding process for a greater number of people to join. This means blockchains will incentivize users to utilize their network.
Later, the Coffee Crew is joined by Julian and Austin from the Doodles team to update us on the project. The current media business is being disrupted and onchain products with good IP are primed to take a place in this new future. Doodles is one of those projects with good IP. They have the ability to connect the characters to audiences through participatory storytelling (think Pudgy, Azuki, Claynosaurs). Doodles moved part of their business from Flow to Base. Smart move by them. The core ecosystem is already on an EVM and the onboarding process is much easier.
Julian and Austin also discuss content creation and how it’s all starting to come together for Doodles. YouTube numbers have been growing in just two short months. Doodles have this ability to span across multiple demographics. Julian says the content will be safe to share with children, but it won’t necessarily be for children. Think Pixar movies with a little more edge/grit.

Blast Token Unlock + The Sports Meta Interview
During the show, people share their thoughts on $BLAST and what they plan to do with their claims. There were a few bear and bull cases for the TGE. How will Pacman continue to keep people incentivized to stay on the chain? The bullish sentiment revolves around the nice dApps (IKB, The Colony, etc.) already on the blockchain. People still want to know what the long term incentives are for holding $BLAST and continuing to interact with the ecosystem. The token dropped live on the show with a low float and high FDV (fully diluted valuation), which is typically a bearish sign. It will take time for the token to fully play out.
The $BLAST token gets dropped today near the end of the show. The Coffee Crew gives the bull case and bear case for $BLAST and how the plan to handle the initial unlock. Later, we’re joined by Loop to talk about The Sports Meta, a project designed to redefine the sports industry on the blockchain.
Later, the Coffee Crew is joined by Loop to discuss The Sports Meta, a project designed to redefine the sports industry on the blockchain. The team is trying to build a club and make it the place to be. Digital products will have a role, but Loop believes there is a ton of value for in-person events. The Sports Meta will focus on having smaller, more localized events so everyone feels like a VIP and can make meaningful connections.
The Sports Meta will be a Bitcoin Ordinals PFP with an application-based allowlist. Anyone accepted through the application can nominate 2 other people. Loop believes highly curated communities can be really special and NFTs are starting to enter back into the minds of people.

Unpacking the Blast Airdrop + A Discussion on ApeChain
Expectations for $BLAST were through the roof. We unpack people’s thoughts on the TGE and the Blast ecosystem going forward. Why was the projected token price so inflated? What’s next now that the initial farm is over?
Later, the Coffee Crew is joined by Jordan, one of the Banana Bill authors, to discuss the future of ApeChain. If you’re a BAYC holder or interested in building on ApeChain, I encourage you to listen back to this one. Some things I pulled from it are the blockchain will be an L3 off of Arbitrum and transaction fees will be in $APE. Arbitrum was used intentionally to keep transaction fees extremely low. One of the main focuses is creating a well designed ecosystem that will attract builders who haven’t necessarily held a BAYC or participated in the Yuga ecosystem. Also, ApeChain will provide a long standing community to use a builder’s product from day 1.

Zed Run Fading Down the Stretch + TruSTUB Ticket Platform
Zed Run is going through a rebrand. Part of that process is to scrap the original assets, but give people holding something in return. There’s a catch though. You only receive compensation if you engage with their new platform. This plan was met with massive community backlash and it has the Zed Run team rethinking their position. Can Zed Run return to its former glory? It doesn’t really seem like it, but time will tell.
Later, the Coffee Crew is joined by Caruso to dive into the TruSTUB, a platform turning a ticket stub into a time capsule that unlocks rewards. The product is based on a web2 front end coupled with a web3 back end. This sounds like a perfect setup for “normies.” A ticket stub is a tangible item that connects a person to an experience, but it often gets thrown away. Digitizing the ticket stub will allow the user to have it forever.
Ticket stubs will be tradeable and may even have collectible value. Caruso and the team are more focused on the pricelessness of the product in hopes that people won’t want to trade. The fan aspect will link you more deeply to your experience.

Wrap Up
That’s all for week 26 of Coffee with Captain. The $BLAST claim didn’t go as expected, but unfortunately that’s part of the process. Shoutout to the four guests who joined the show and informed us on what they’re building. Some are older projects while others are brand new. Either way, we’re trying to help amplify those who are pushing the web3 space forward. If you missed week 25, make sure to check it out here.
