That’s all for Week 29 of Coffee with Captain. We had the infamous Julian clapback and a late night dispute amongst founders. We also had an amazing discussion over Doodles’ animation trailer, a massive move by Pixel Vault to ApeChain and looked at multiple brands within the web3 space. To finish off the week we had a special co-host come explain how AI will make all our lives so much easier.
In case you missed any of the shows, below is a small recap of each day with links to the podcast on Apple and Spotify. Links to other streaming platforms can be found on our buzzsprout page. Check out the timestamp if you want to catch the specific interviews.
Monday
Digital Art Investments + Doodles Mogging
Monday started off with a bang as Julian, Doodles CEO, clapped back on the X timeline over the weekend after receiving some hate. Cap wasn’t a fan (spoiler alert, later in the week Julian explains and Cap changes his mind), but our special guest co-host Riggs loved it. The post was in response to Doodles’ collaborations and sprung up a larger conversation over NFT collaborations with web2 brands. Is it even difficult to land one? We dive into the Doodles x CAMP partnership as well as other NFT products.
We also had a discussion over digital art. Riggs is bearish on most digital art from an investment standpoint. I tend to agree. Is oversupply an issue? Artwork is typically appreciated more when an artist dies and can no longer create new art. The “open edition” meta really amplified this point. At the end of the day, it’s probably better to just buy art you love and the price won’t matter. We don’t have enough participants who collect digital art (and NFTs in general) just to collect. I’m interested in other people’s thoughts though.

Tuesday
SaaSy Labs vs Yuga Labs + Bring Back WAGMI
Web3 is becoming more and more tribal as time goes on. The space began with WAGMI (we’re all going to make it) vibes, but now has turned to PVP. It’s cool to FUD other projects because to win, someone else has to lose. This wasn’t what the web3 ecosystem was built on. The Coffee Crew gives a great variety of takes on the topic. Web3 requires a cohesive whole and greed can make it easy to lose sight of that. We have to start supporting each other and genuinely hope others win.
Speaking of anti-WAGMI vibes, Rich of SaaSy Labs pops on the show late to discuss a public disagreement on the X timeline with Greg of Yuga Labs. Steve brought it to our attention on his late night post. Thankfully, Cap and other Coffee Crew members were able to share some wisdom. Feel free to check out the 30 minute discussion at the timestamp (2:05:12). Episode link below as always

Wednesday
Doodles’ Trailer For Dullsville and the Doodleverse
The Doodles Official Trailer for ‘Dullsville and the Doodleverse’ dropped Tuesday night on X and sometime during Wednesday on YouTube. This was a massive hit with Doodles’ holders and non holders alike. The community feels like they’re a part of the building process and this is an important piece to a company’s success. Building in web3 is a marathon, not a sprint. The Doodles company has shown their ability to produce animation at a high level and penetrate the web2 world.
Julian and Austin joins the Coffee Crew, alongside Doodles holder and special guest co-host Pawky, to discuss the animation experience Doodles is creating. Tyler D (@Tyler_Did_It) says on X “I think this Doodles short film is arguably the strongest creative output from any PFP collection we’ve ever seen.” I wasn’t able to cover everything that Julian talked about, but it’s worth going back and checking it out. Timestamp for the interview is in the show notes.

Thursday
Big Brands in Crypto + Web3 Native NFT Products
Thursday’s episode was a mixed brew of random topics. Long time listener and friend of the show, Von Frontin, talks about leaving his corporate job to dive deeper into web3 with Vonga. Congrats to Von on the 20k $APE grant through ThankApe. There was also some random conversation over sports that had very little, if anything, to do with web3. We did touch on Ebay’s NFT section, as well as Hot Wheels. I, and the Coffee Crew, were completely unaware of Hot Wheels’ time in web3. It brought up an issue of segmentation (they’re on Flow network) and improper marketing. Who is trying to help onboard these big web2 brands into web3?

Friday
AI Automation + Pixel Vault Heads to ApeChain
Special guest co-cohost and AI expert, Bunchu, joins us on Friday to give us a peek into what he’s doing with AI. You’re really going to want to run this episode back. Bunchu trained a voice AI and was able to create a 15-20 minute daily podcast that reads over AI news. He took a 3-4 hour process and condensed it to about 15 minutes, after a few manual tasks. This is the next big iteration of technology. Von Frontin shares his experience with building Vonga using AI as his cofounder, with the help of Bunchu. Check out his free online content.
Later, the Coffee Crew is joined by Sean and Aaron of Pixel Vault (PV) to discuss Pixel Vault’s partnership with Bored Ape Yacht Club (see post). Reboot.gg is joining ApeChain to bring skill-based wagering. They plan to make PV’s ecosystem of games more mainstream. Part of this will be through the use of USDC for wagering. Skill-based wagering is the focus because the new generation isn’t attracted to slot machines or casinos. The younger generations want some part in the decision-making when risking their money. The challenge will be to make the game fun and rewarding at the same time.
