What a week this was. Week 7 of Coffee with Captain started with the BAYC identity crisis and ends with a special Saturday edition due to major news. The headline is Yuga Labs acquired Moonbirds? Talk about a mixture of emotions from people. Bitcoin continues to pump, but are ordinals a blemish on the token? We talked with the CEO of On1 Force to learn how the return of the storytelling anime is going. We also dove into Making Coffee with Tecmo Bo to learn the roots of coffee making. Sprinkle in some conversation about Pudgy Penguins sell-shaming and that’s a recipe for a news-filled week.
In case you missed any of the shows, below is a small recap of each day with links to the podcast on Apple and Spotify. Links to other streaming platforms can be found on our buzzsprout page. Check out the timestamp if you want to catch the specific interviews.
Monday
The BAYC Identity Crisis
Monday started the week off fiery as Cap and Steve have a “spirited” conversation early on. There is somewhat of an identity crisis within the Bored Ape Yacht Club. What does it even mean to be a member of BAYC today? The fragmentation of The Club is doing more harm than good, but what is the solution?
The Coffee Crew has a marathon episode that saw appearances from OG apes like VonDoom, Laura Rod and Spottie Wifi. We also hear perspectives from newer holders and even non-holders. Cap came out of this show a little more confused about the identity of BAYC, but it was obvious the community was ready for action.

Tuesday
On1 Force: The Future of Cross-Chain Storytelling
Monday’s intense BAYC conversation is followed by Tuesday’s renewed energy about the brand. Listen in to hear how it occurred so rapidly. We also were joined by Starlordyftw, CEO of On1 Force, to get a breakdown of the project.
On1 Force is a story of ups and downs. The project was acquired by Old Fashion Research (OFR) early 2023 and has been back on the rise since. They have plans for comics books to appear in stores and have plans to expand their IP across multiple chains. On1 Force aims to be the best anime storytelling brand in web3.

Wednesday
Are Bitcoin Ordinals Too Complex?
As Bitcoin continues to cook, the weekly ordinals conversation rages on. Are people becoming more bullish on ordinals? There’s a question of liquidity. So far a lot of collections seem to have liquidity issues making reselling difficult. Then there’s the poor user experience and even bigger barrier than other networks. Are NFTs on Bitcoin a step back compared to other chains?
We also touch on the upcoming market cycle. Are you a collector or a trader? What is everyone doing for airdrop season? What does it look like to close down a business in web3? This show is filled with interesting topics.

Thursday
ThreadGuy Levels Up + Making Coffee
ThreadGuy has been making some waves recently. Cap and Steve start off by acknowledging his growth and dedication to honing his craft. Who will be the next one to take that kind of leap in the web3 space?
We also get into some speculation on the Yuga marketplace with Magic Eden. There’s a thesis by one of the guests that Apes may need to be wrapped in the future. Would the community stand by that? And what is ApeChain going to look like?
Later in the show we’re joined by Tecmo Bo to talk about Making Coffee sprinkled in with some Bo Jackson. What is Making Coffee? It’s an innovative coffee company utilizing web3 tech while being the web2 facing coffee brand. We learn about Tecmo Bo’s robust history within the coffee business and the why behind Making Coffee.

Friday
Are Pudgy Penguins Sell-Shaming?
Are the Pudgy Penguins now sell-shaming community members? It’s sad to see a community rise from the ashes, but forget their roots. It’s our job to call out bad actors when they don’t represent the core of our community well. This incident sparked a larger conversation about the freedom to transact. This is one of the main reasons for the formation of crypto and we can’t lose that.

Saturday
Yuga Labs Acquires Proof and Moonbirds
This was a special edition show thrown in at the end of the week. With massive news of Yuga buying Proof and Moonbirds, we couldn’t wait until the weekend. There is a mixed bag of emotions from both communities. Does this even make sense for Yuga or Proof/Moonbirds? Also what are the terms of the deal? According to a post, there will be a token-gated town hall in the BAYC discord. We’ll have to see how it all plays out.
There’s no podcast, but if you want to check out the spaces playback here’s a link. Fair warning, it’s 6 hours and a lot of different speakers.
Wrap Up
Thanks for your continued support. Next week we’ll likely talk about the terms of the Yuga acquisition of Proof/Moonbirds and get more speculation of the future. Yuga is taking shots and trying to build. Let’s sit back and see what they’re working with! If you missed Week 6, then feel free to catch up here.
