dGEN War Room Opening Up + dGEN Token
tl;dr
- dGen is inviting people into the closed Discord
- Once the Discord scales a bit more, we’ll release an NFT that tokengates the Discord
- The token gets you into the community, access to our tools, partnerships, allow lists, IRL events, and more
- Mint date and mint price of the token is TBD, but won’t break the bank
- We’ll use money from the token sale to continue to grow dGEN, create value for the community, hire people, and pay current contributors
When we founded the dGEN Network in June 2021, we never expected that our Discord would be one of the most valuable things we’d create. The whole idea of dGEN was to bring a decentralized media company to Web3 and crypto; to give a platform to anyone who wanted to talk tech. Writers have come and gone, shows have started and stopped, but one thing has stayed steady – the dGEN War Room.
Friends, Learning, and Community
While the War Room was set up shortly after the dGEN Discord was created, its real birth was in August 2021 with the mint of Jenkins the Valet. Everyone was excited to get our hands on this highly anticipated project, but then something happened…the site crashed right before mint.
In 2021 it was common to see gas wars and mint issues, but this time, everyone in the War Room sprang into action together. A group of eager degenerates chatted and taught one another how to mint from the contract, lent each other ETH, and sold tokens at-cost to those who missed the mint. It was special.
Flash forward almost a year later, and the War Room voice channel had 25+ people on a voice chat for the most anticipated drop in NFT history – the Otherside land sale. Together, this group watched the contract to track total mints, coached each other on gas, and did everything in our power to ensure every person on that voice chat who wanted to mint could get an Otherdeed.
Perhaps most importantly, we hung out for hours having a great time, turning a stressful mint into an event. At a time when so many in the NFT community felt lost and confused, the people in the War Room worked together to create a great experience.
While those minting stories are fun, it’s what happens in between that adds even more value. We share alpha, win and lose trades together, share allow lists, and have multiple bots we paid to create (on our own dime) that track things like whale wallets and NFTs with heavy momentum. We welcome new members from time to time, with varying levels of NFT experience, and educate them on what it takes to succeed in Web3.
We share our networks, connect people, and have various members who have their ear to the ground on all aspects of Web3. We never realized how special this “home base” Discord was until recently. As we started to tell stories about it, people asked to get in. And once they got in, they told us we had something valuable here.
The dGEN Token – Try Before You Buy
The dGEN Discord has been private for quite some time. We didn’t do this with any intentionality, but rather because we had a special group and wanted to make sure we kept that magic in-tact. As more people have asked about getting in, we’ve realized there’s an opportunity to make it even better. Starting mid-May, we’ll be inviting people in who we feel match the vibe of the current community.
Regular listeners to dGEN shows like Mint Condition and NFT Night Shift, contributors to Coffee with Captain, and dope people we chat with regularly on various social media channels will get invites. We’ll also give referral invites to people within the Discord, because we believe the current crew is the right group to help us expand and keep that magic rolling.
After a few months, once we have more people in the Discord, we’ll release an NFT. At that point, the Discord will only be accessible to people who hold a token. We wanted to give everyone the chance to see if they like the value provided then decide for themselves if it’s worth it. We also thought it was important to be up-front about the plan, rather than dropping it suddenly and putting people to a tough decision.
So, like…what does the dGEN Token get me?
The dGEN token (which will probably have a much cooler name when we launch it) gets you access to all the things discussed above. It gets you a friendly community with a ton of knowledge that lives for NFTs and Crypto, allow lists from partner projects, community alpha (although this is much more than alpha group), the bots we’ve created, dGEN events at NFT conferences, and more. We say “and more” because we don’t want to over promise, but we’re working on some additional value-adds for the community.
We’ll use the money we raise in a variety of ways, including brokering partnerships, creating more bots and mechanisms to track the market, hiring more people to work in some capacity with dGEN, and other things that add value to the community. People who have met our founders and core community know that we’re a genuine group with an extensive network to tap into that we can activate for people who come along for the ride.
And those who don’t want to buy a token…totally cool! We’ll still enjoy chatting in Spaces, chopping it up on Twitter, and connecting IRL at events. We’re not creating a token to try to go to the moon, we’re trying to crowd fund a great group that takes the magic of our current War Room and brings it to the next level. We haven’t decided on a price or mint date yet, but don’t expect it to break the bank. Our goal is to raise funds to help the community, not ask for a massive stack of ETH that forces our members to sell off their NFTs.
While there’s a lot of information still to come here, we wanted to give as much as we could up-front. Stay tuned for more, and reach out if you’re interested in an invite to the join dGEN crew.
