Bullish Thoughts on y00ts and DeGods NFTs
With all the talk about the @y00tsNFT application process, many people are losing the plot on how smart/innovative this mechanic is for growing a community. It makes me bullish on @DeGodsNFT, @frankdegods, and the future of the world they’re creating.
Full disclosure, I applied as a founder/creator, but this isn’t some sneaky ploy to get through. Anyone who follows me knows I’ll critique my own bags and pump bags I don’t own. My perspective is independent of my own pending status.
With that out of the way, let’s break down this process from the obvious to the not-so-obvious reasons why I like it. This is different than anything I’ve seen so far, and frankly, @DeGodsNFT is crowned and doesn’t HAVE to do it this way.
At a high level, allow lists for new mints in existing projects are extended to the people “who you want to invite to the party.” This is usually done with a shotgun approach – like allocations a to specific community who you jive with.
The application mechanic allows the process to be even more curated, and the scale is impressive. I actually said last year BAYC should have held back some Mutants for people who would be great community members beyond the pricey dutch auction.
As mentioned earlier – the time intensiveness of this process isn’t something they needed to do; they’d have no problem selling out the mint. But they are, and to me that shows they want to get it “right” as they bring more people into their world.
As a marketer, I also appreciate the brilliance of creating scarcity, a barrier to entry which makes you “work for it” a bit more, and the promotion by people who accept it. It’s great air cover for @y00tsNFT and @DeGodsNFT.
But more than that – and this is less obvious to many people – it’s amazing for the whole Solana ecosystem. People who have never set up a Phantom Wallet are setting creating one, transferring SOL to it, and buying DUST.
This is going to make many people who have considered jumping into SOL NFTs (me included) interested even if we don’t get selected. It pushed me to finally take the leap to SOL. Even if half of those new wallets go SOL shopping it’s a big win for the chain.
It also has helped connect the ETH and SOL Twitter communities in a way I’ve never seen before. Lots of ETH maxis make low-hanging-fruit jokes about SOL. Now they’re knocking at the door to get in. The FUD is gone. The love is here.
I’ve never been a chain maxi, and I’m super excited to see the cross pollination. By selecting respected leaders/builders with valued opinions, it sets an example for the rest of the community (no matter where their bags are) to get on board.
Regardless if I get selected, it’s been cool to watch this unfold. In a world where we see a lot of copycat mechanics, this is something new, at least at this level. I shoulda got a @DeGodsNFT months ago when @ValentinesDip told me to.
But again, it’s worth repeating, this whole process has led to many SOL wallets being created, and now many more people are entirely more likely to play around on a brand new chain. And to me, that’s a win for the entire NFT community.
